Most Reiki practitioners find that when they are performing Reiki on a client, they often are not exactly sure how proficiently the Reiki energy is working. Sometimes they wonder how deeply the client’s healing is being effected, and sometimes they wonder whether the Reiki is working at all!

These are all very good and viable questions for the Reiki practitioner to have in her mind when she is doing Reiki on a client. You see, the practitioner wants to know exactly how well the Reiki is performing and how soon and completely the client will make a recovery.  

However, the Reiki energy comes from the Universe and it is given to the client through the practitioner, so the practitioner really has no control whether the Reiki energy will heal or harm the person. Do not worry, I can assure you the Reiki energy will never harm the client and it will always do what is best for him, but the Reiki energy is limited by the amount of resistance that is within the client. What this means can be answered by the question, “Is the client ‘ripe’ or ready to be healed, or is he resisting in some way, by choosing to not let go of certain beliefs, thoughts or practices in his life that are harmful and put his health at risk?”

Let me give you an example. The person who is smoking will not get well from smoking related illness until he or she gives up this disgusting, filthy habit. Likewise, if someone feels that he is worthless, hopeless or hapless, these thoughts or belief systems (which can be deep in his subconscious) may be at the root of behaviours that are causing sickness to the client in some area of his being, or his life.

For example, these negative belief systems may sabotage people in their relationships, or may sabotage and hold back people in opportunities to enhance their employment status. These negative thoughts and belief systems may cause people to take up unhealthy habits. Finally, holding the belief of feeling worthless and useless will disrupt the flow of the body’s subtle energies, that is the flow of Ki or Qi in the body, and this causes sickness and disease. It is easy to see that these kinds of deep seated negative belief systems exist in most people at some level of their being, and these belief systems affect the person’s health and well being on many different levels.

Reiki generally cannot cure the diseases that are being created by the existence of these belief systems unless these belief systems are resolved. So, just as continuing to smoke will allow certain health issues to persist, likewise the existence of these thought-forms and belief systems will perpetuate certain health, relationships and life disorders that a person will have to face.

Now, Reiki heals around these previously mentioned issues because, just like it is the person’s choice to give up smoking, it is also their free will whether to continually have these conscious and unconscious thoughts of feeling worthless or not, which again, cause disorder in the person’s health and his life in general. So, what I am saying here is, the person must give up the tendency to these thoughts, but how can they give up the tendency to these thoughts when they are “hardwired” into their brain from early childhood and past life existences?

You see, as I said earlier, Reiki does not take away the clients free will. The client is allowed to think as he chooses, to behave as he wants, of course there are karmic consequences for his thoughts, words and actions, likewise some of the karmic consequences of the feeling “I am worthless, useless etc” are as I outlined previously.  So, if the person is perpetually thinking he is worthless, consciously or subconsciously, it will create a health disorder.

Reiki will not take away the person’s choice to think in this way or that; the person must do something to counteract his tendencies toward fear based thought to assist in his own healing. Reiki will soothe the person and help him heal as well as help him realise certain patterns and consequences of his actions. However, the person must make the effort to confront that part of himself that is causing the problem, and have the realisation that these thoughts of worthlessness, uselessness and not feeling worthwhile, are simply impulses that have been ingrained into him from birth and childhood, right through his life.

These thoughts are not the real truth of who the client is. So, the client must come to terms with this idea himself.
