Do you want to be seen as a professional when you do Reiki? The last thing you want to do is mistreat your Reiki clients or embarrass and humiliate yourself through lack of professional conduct. Look and be professional from the very outset.

The first concept you need to have a “handle on” is the reality that Reiki is a tool that assists healing in all levels of the person. This is important to remember whether you are starting a professional Reiki practice, or just simply giving Reiki to people.

One of the implications of this statement is that sometimes you cannot completely heal a physical aliment with Reiki and this happens for a number of reasons, which we will touch upon later. However, you can always help the person improve their general physical condition (even if these ways may not be specific to the certain ailment) as well as their mental attitude to life, and their emotional state. My dear one, Reiki can help in a multitude of ways.

So, as a practitioner, you must never promise to completely heal your client, for this promise is impossible to keep. This is because, realistically, most of you do not or cannot know whether the person will heal completely or not. However, what you can offer in your service is assistance in the person’s well being, that is, improvement in body, mind, and spirit. So, this is what you can promise.

Anyone who promises the person will get completely well with Reiki is an amateur. This is because most Reiki practitioners do not know the full extent of the person's sickness. They do not know the karmic consequences that lie behind that person’s illness from the very beginning. They cannot understand the spiritual reasons as to why this sickness has “reared its ugly head”, and finally they do not understand the thoughts and belief systems the person is carrying that may be stopping the person from resolving the illness. For example, a person may, deep in their heart, not want to release the sickness because

1. The sickness may give them attention

2. The sickness may give them some sense of security

3. They may feel guilty about themselves in some way and so the sickness is a way of punishing themselves.

My dear one, there are a multitude of reasons as to why people get sick and do not fully recover from illness; these are just three we have pointed out.

Reiki is a wonderful, powerful system, and it can do much to heal a person, but the person who requires healing may sometimes need deeper inner work. This is so they do not recreate and perpetuate the conditions that have made them sick.
